Depositing with MTN Mobile Money in Ghana

What this guide covers

It covers one payment channel — MTN Mobile Money — at the operators we cover editorially, and only what those operators publish about it. It is a desk pass: pages were read and transcribed, licence classes were checked against the register. No account was opened, no cedi was deposited and nothing was timed.

• No deposit fee is published here. We have not sourced a deposit fee for any of these operators, and we do not republish MTN's own tariff without reading it on a date. The column stays empty rather than carrying a number we cannot show you.
• No USSD short code. Operators name a USSD channel without printing the code on the pages we read, so we do not print one either.
• No confirmation or settlement times. Those require a deposit we have not made, from an account we have not opened.

How a deposit is set up

The order below follows the deposit screens we read. Where a step depends on something we have not observed, it says so instead of guessing.

1. Check the site is the licensed one. Trade names in the Gaming Commission register are the ones to match — a look-alike domain is not in it. The full register, all 85 entries →
2. Open the deposit page. The channel list can be readable before you sign in — betPawa's is, and that is the one deposit screen we hold a capture of. We have not opened an account anywhere, so we do not describe what the form asks for once you are signed in.
3. Pick the network that matches your wallet. Networks are separate choices, not one "mobile money" button: betPawa's deposit page lists MTN, AirtelTigo and Telecel as three distinct options, each with its own limit.
4. Enter the amount in GH₵. Minimums each operator declares are in the table below. An amount under the declared minimum, or over a channel limit, is refused at this step.
5. Approve it on your handset. Two flows appear in what operators list — an in-site deposit and a USSD deposit. Betway names both (MTN Online and MTN USSD); SportyBet, betPawa and MSport name a single MTN entry without saying which flow it is. We have not run either, so we do not describe the prompt, the PIN screen or how long approval takes.

Every value in this table is the operator's own claim, read from its own site on the date in the last column. None of it is verified by us, and the Gaming Commission register carries no payment data against which it could be checked.

When a deposit does not go through

We have not made a deposit at any of these operators, so we publish no error messages, no failure rates and no resolution times. What the pages we read do let you check, before you pay and before you contact anybody:

• The network selected matches the wallet. MTN, AirtelTigo and Telecel are three separate choices on betPawa's deposit screen, each with its own ceiling. Which one matches your wallet is the first thing to get right.
• The amount sits inside the channel's limits. Limits are per channel, not per operator, and the capture above shows two different ceilings on the same page.
• The amount clears the declared minimum. Three operators declare GH₵1; Betway declares none on the page we read.
• The site is the licensed operator's own. Check the trade name against the register before entering a PIN anywhere.

Withdrawal times

None published. A withdrawal time is only worth printing when somebody requested a withdrawal, watched it land and recorded the date — and no operator on this site has been tested with real money yet. Operators advertise their own turnarounds; we do not reproduce them, because we would be republishing a claim as if we had checked it.
